It’s no secret that I love live shows, even if they mean staying out late on a work night and being sleep deprived the next day. The older I get, the harder it is to trek out of my warm apartment at night, and stand around for a few hours while I wait for the show to start. More, and more often I just wanna say “screw it”… I would eat the money loss than head out in the cold. This was one of those nights. But a friend made me go, and soon as Rachael started playing, I was reminded of why I keep doing this. I LOVE MUSIC. Live music, band music, solo music, music you can clap to, music you dance along with, music that leaves your heart bleeding… all of it. Needless to say, I had the time of my life and thanked my friend profusely for not letting me flake.
This is the 3rd time I have seen Rachael…and wow, she’s looking/sounding great. The band sounded lush, her singing delivery was passionate, and the occasional jokes were just enough to remind me to pick my emotional heart off the floor.
The set had an “Asian/wintery theme”, and was bathed in blue lights/yellow lights all night. The setlist was a perfect mixture of old/new stuff. Highlight for me? “Sunday Afternoon”… god I love that song… I’m absolutely addicted to her “Elephants” album right now, and hearing that song live was even more powerful than hearing it blaring in my living room.
